In 1995, Rob & Charlotte Lepp started selling their sweet summer corn off the back of a trailer. Twenty years later they’re running one of Abbotsford’s most popular foodie destinations – Lepp Farm Market – a year-round farm market. The market features the Lepp’s premium pork, poultry and Black Angus beef, as well as a wide selection of BC’s best gourmet foods, farm-fresh vegetables and fruits from their Okanagan orchard.
The Fraser Valley is one of the most intensively farmed areas in Canada, lauded for the accessibility of locally grown food. But for farmers who want to sell directly to the consumer, competing against significantly larger grocery chains with considerable market power can be a daunting challenge. When the Lepp’s came to us shortly after opening their farm market, our primary challenge was to help make them stand out as a premium choice in a crowded retail market and lure shoppers away from well-known grocery stores.
A brand is so much more than a logo, it’s the complete experience people have with an organization. The Lepp’s had something special to share, rooted in their farmer-to-plate philosophy and the generous hospitality of a by-gone era. Our strategy focused on translating the infectious personalities and deep-seated values of Rob & Char into every touch-point of their growing business.
Better When Shared
As farmers selling direct to consumers, the Lepp's have the opportunity to extend the hospitality of their farmer's table to the entire community. We updated the brand and developed a cohesive, consistent regional marketing strategy anchored in the belief that life is "better when shared."
Brand awareness is critical for a start-up business, so we promoted regular seasonal events like cooking classes with celebrity chefs to get the local community excited and create a fun weekend destination for neighbouring towns and cities.
Join the Family
We knew how important customer loyalty would be to growth, so we worked to build a sense of community through e-newsletters, social media and the newly launched Lepp Farm Family loyalty program.
To create growth and scalability opportunities that could reach beyond the constraints of physical locations and geography, we developed a successful custom consumer packaged goods (CPG) product line.
We've worked closely with Lepp's to enhance the in-store experience with better signage, wall graphics and digital monitors, creating an atmosphere as inviting as the people who work there.
